Truth time: how many self-care posts have you liked on social media, but have no plans of creating a self-care routine for yourself? We’ll answer this one for you… probably a lot! But hey, you might have a self-care routine already and you don’t even know it. Let’s not jump ahead, though. In case you’re even unsure about what exactly self-care entails, we’ll let Oxford Dictionary lay this out for you:
Self-care--
1.1 The practice of taking an active role in protecting one's own well-being and happiness, in particular during periods of stress.
The New Year’s Resolutions people usually create this time of year are often ways to improve their own self-care. If you don’t have a self-care routine now is as good of a time as ever to get started and we’ll guide you along the way.
You’re probably thinking, “where do I start with this?” Well, think about what makes you feel your best self. What do you do periodically or everyday to take care of yourself? This can be something as small as giving yourself daily affirmations, drinking 8 glasses of water, putting on your favorite song, or even going on a morning run! Listen, you do you... no judgment!
Once you have your goal or routine (can be long-term, short-term… you make the rules!) write it down! Most people find that keeping a journal holds you accountable. What can also help is finding guided workbooks or prompts online to use as a journal to have a conversation with yourself, talk about your strengths and weaknesses, or to just track your journey. These journals can be your molds to the path of self-care, that you can use as a guidebook for your routine! See what works for you and what doesn’t. We’re here for you… we got you!
