I was browsing Facebook and came across a post entitled, "She Gave A Homeless Woman A Coat & Got Yelled At. Her Response Is Brilliant & Inspiring." I settled in for a rather cringe-worthy viral video with a heartwarming message at its core that restores my faith in humanity. What I got was far more profound.
Veronika Scott is the founder and CEO of the Empowerment Plan, a Detroit-based non-profit that shares her ingenious and incredibly vital invention with those who need it most.
As a child of a broken home, she understands the struggles of those who find themselves without options, a place to call home, and--sometimes--a warm winter coat. Inspired during a school project, she designed and invented a coat that transforms into a sleeping bag. For those who find themselves without shelter, this coat is a welcome gift of warmth and care from a young woman who envisions a better world by serving others, improving morale, and uplifting her community with her intelligence and humanitarianism.
In addition to creating this wonderful and utilitarian piece of clothing and, indeed, motivated by the words of a rather disgruntled woman outside a shelter one day, she built her business in order to teach, employ, and uplift the homeless, giving them vital skills, a vocation, and the resources to reach their full potential and restore their sense of self-worth. In this way, she is changing lives in huge ways and living her kindness to its fullest potential.
Please take a peek at her story and her wonderful company, The Empowerment Plan, below:
I hope this video and this woman's vision and mission uplifts you, inspires you to perform your daily act of kindness, and motivates you to dream big and live beautifully.
